At the Duke Barnes Foundation, our mission is clear: to create positive change and promote equity and justice for all. Inspired by the principles of dignity, equality, and freedom, we strive to make a meaningful impact on individuals and communities through our various initiatives and programs.
David “Duke” Barnes, a product of the civil rights movement era, grew up in Montgomery, Alabama, during the 1970s and 1980s. His upbringing instilled in him the belief that making our community better should be in our very DNA. Drawing inspiration from Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s vision, Duke opened The Foundation Coffee House in Huntsville, AL, in 2021, as a proud Black-owned establishment dedicated to celebrating Black culture and fostering economic empowerment.
The Duke Barnes Foundation is actively involved in several key areas:
We provide mentorship, recruitment, and advisory services to organizations like Men of Kennis, supporting efforts to increase the representation of Black and Hispanic male teachers in classrooms in Alabama.
Through partnerships with organizations like the AAMU Bulldog Players, we offer venues for creative expression and community engagement, fostering a sense of belonging and artistic exploration.
Our annual Thanksgiving dinner at The Foundation Coffee House provides a warm meal and sense of community for students who cannot go home for the holidays, exemplifying our commitment to supporting those in need.
We welcome individuals and organizations who share our vision of creating positive change to join us in our mission. Whether through volunteering, donations, or partnership opportunities, your support helps us continue our vital work in the community.
